  1. Nuclear Medical and Imaging Sciences Technical Committee Report to NPSS AdCom • Charles Watson • October 31, 2009

  2. New NMISTC Chair My term as NMISTC Chair ends this year. Robert Myaoka, University of Washington, will be taking over as Chair on January 1, 2010, for a two-year term. We have a single candidate to replace Robert as Vice-Chair: Suleman Surti of the University of Pennsylvania. We expect him to be confirmed at our annual meeting on Oct 30.

  3. NMISC elections We have six candidates for five open positions on NMISC. The election is in progress. George Kontaxakis worked with Jane Lehr and Mary Curtis to submit our slate at the same time as those for other TCs, and have electronic balloting for the first time. The election will be finalized in mid-December. The candidates are: Paul René Michel Lecoq Vesna Sossi Juan José Vaquero Jinyi Qi Stefaan Tavernier Dimitris Visvikis

  4. NMISTC awards at the 2009 MIC Anna Celler and her Awards Sub-Committee selected the following recipients for the two NMISTC awards this year: The 2009 Edward J. Hoffman Medical Imaging Scientist Award: Prof. Benjamin M. W. Tsui, Johns Hopkins University Citation: "For contributions to the development of digital phantoms and quantitative SPECT methods" Nominator: Eric C. Frey, Ph.D. The 2009 Bruce H. Hasegawa Young Investigator Medical Imaging Science Award: Dr. Katia Parodi, University of Heidelberg Citation: "For contributions to PET applications in ion beam radiotherapy" Nominator: Wolfgang Enghardt, Ph.D. A flyer with the names, pictures and short bios of both the RITC and NMISTC award winners was prepared and placed in the attendees' bags at the NSS/MIC registration.

  5. TCS of Bratislava Summer School, July 6 – 15 Carlos Granga, one of the Schools’ organizers, has provided a brief report on the meeting that is attached to this report as an Appendix. It appears to have been very successful (85 students, 30 lecturers). We have not had further discussions on IEEE NPSS participation in the review of the papers for the Conference Record of the meeting (to be published by AIP)

  6. NSS/MIC Joint Oversight Sub-committee’s operating procedures Tom Lewellen, the Chair of the JOS, wrote a detailed description of the current procedures and guidelines used by JOS, greatly improving the transparency of the NSS/MIC site selection process. This document has been circulated to the NMISC (and RISC) for feedback. Tom will review this process at the annual NMISC meeting Oct 30, and solicit comments and suggestions for improvements. This report is attached in the file “Appendix_7.3.2_NSS_MIC_OS_procedures_and_guidelines.pdf”.

  7. Changes to NMISTC bylaws The changes to the NMISTC bylaws approved by NMISC and by AdCom at its July 2009 meeting will be published in the December NPSS newsletter, completing the amendment process.
