  3. Activate Prior Knowledge • We will be reading aloud a selection about Sammy Sosa, who worked to become a star baseball player. • What do you think makes an athlete a superstar? (personality and talent)

  4. Activate Prior Knowledge • In 1998, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were in a homerun hitting race to beat Roger Maris’s homerun record of 61 homeruns in a single season.

  5. Activate Prior Knowledge • Locate San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic on the map, this is where Sosa was born.
