  3. Mt. Kilimanjaro • Giant stratovolcano • Elevation of 19,336 feet or 5,895 miles • Its highest cone is named Kibo • Africa’s largest volcano and among the largest on Earth

  4. Lake Victoria • A Great Lake of Africa • 26,560 miles in size • Africa’s largest lake • Largest tropical lake in the world • 2nd largest fresh water lake in the world • Source of the Nile • One of the most densely populated regions on earth

  5. Horn of Africa • A peninsula of East Africa • Contains the countries of Djibouti, Ethiopia, • Eritrea and Somalia • Inhabits 86.5 million people • Located in the middle of the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer • Arid region

  6. Droughts in Ethiopia • Pre-famine conditions now reported in parts of East Africa • Large numbers of children suffer from malnutrition • Animals dying due to lack of water and feed • 2.3 million people affected by the famine • Financial support being provided by Canada and the United States
