HISTORY The present Ladakh was divided into two provinces while the third comprised western Tibet. The area of western Tibet slipped away from the kingdom but was reunited in 16th Century A.D. by the famous Ladakhi ruler Sengge Namgyal.
TRADITIONAL DRESS Goncha or Kos (commonly used word in Ladakh) is a voluminous robe resembling a coat made of wool, velvet, cotton, polyester, or a combination of these. Goncha is worn by males, the everyday wear is usually in black, grey, burgundy, or earthen colour.
MOMOS(THUPKA) Thukpa is the staple food of people of Ladakh. It is a soupy noodle dish with assorted vegetables (for vegetarians) and minced meat (for non- vegetarians). The noodle is made of wheat or barley flour.
KHATOK CHENMO DANCE The popular dances in Ladakh include the Khatok Chenmo which is headed by a respectable family member, Shondol, Some other dance forms include Kompa Tsum-tsak Jabro Chaams: Chabs-Skyan Tses Raldi Tses and Alley Yaato.
