Trip Rules • All students will be on-time for all activities and workshops. • Students may not leave the lodging hotel or competition area with any one at any time unless the group as a whole leaves.
Trip Rules • Students must be with at least 1 other student at all times. • Students will respond to all sponsors’ directions. • Students will respect each other and all other team members. No taunting/arguments/gossip or cursing will be allowed.
Trip Rules • Students will remain in their rooms after lights out/final check and no visitors will be allowed in the room at any time. Rooms will be taped nightly and you will be notified in the morning when you may leave your room. • No boys will be allowed in girls rooms and no girls will be allowed in boys rooms for any length of time.
Trip Rules • Absolutely no smoking, drinking, or illegal substances will be tolerated. • Students will let their sponsors know where they are at all times and will remain in contact via cell phone when attending workshop sessions. If you change classes, please notify your sponsor. • Rule violations may result in you being sent home at your parent’s expense. Make good choices.
Academics • Students will attend workshop sessions and contests and will actively participate in those sessions and/or contests. Be prepared with supplies each day. • You will need to make a schedule of all sessions you attended. • Take notes at ALL sessions you go to. Collect copies of all handouts, please. • At each session, you need to Tweet a tip or any good information you get. Use these two hashtags on everything: #nhsjc #ahsboston13
Academics, cont. • You will have a reflection assignment due on Friday, Nov. 22. You will receive your assignment prior to our departure on Thursday, Nov. 14. • Make sure Mrs. Juntunen gets all of the Write-off critiques back to file away. I will make copies if you want to keep yours.
Luggage Guidelines – Carry On Items • BRING YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE OR OTHER FORM OF ID TO THE AIRPORT! Make sure it is accessible to check in and for security. • Carry-on items are limited to one bag plus one small, personal item • Personal items include purses, briefcases, cameras, food containers or laptops • Carry-on bag dimensions are limited to 10 x 16 x 24
Luggage Guidelines – Checked Bags • Jackets are allowed and do not count as carryon items • All liquids in carry-on bags must be in a 3.4 ounces (100ml) or smaller container • Name identification is required on the outside and is recommend on the inside – Please have this completed prior to arriving at the airport if possible • $25 for first checked bag, $35 for second checked bag YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR BAG FEES
Things To Pack • Driver’s License or picture ID • 8.5-by-11 –inch lined paper for writing contests • Recorders with earphones for writing contests (can be checked out through Mrs. Juntunen) • Dictionaries, thesauruses and AP Stylebooks for writing contests (can be checked out through Mrs. Juntunen.) • Writing utensils (contests must be done in pen) • Spiral notebook or journal for notes
Things To Pack • Jacket • Newspaper/yearbook t-shirt • Money for shopping & entertainment • $75 to $100 for meals (look at itinerary for ideas of meal costs – can be debit/credit card) • $18 for subway pass (can be debit/credit card)
What to Wear • You may wear jeans at the convention. • There are two awards ceremonies (Sat. night and Sun. morning), so you may want to bring a nice shirt for photos • Staff t-shirt At no point is it acceptable to wear pajamas in public or walk around the hotel barefoot.
Boston Weather • Thursday 11/14 High 52, Low 39 • Friday 11/15 High 52, Low 38 • Saturday 11/16 High 51, Low 38 • Sunday 11/17 High 51, Low 38 • We will do quite a bit of walking and subway riding, so bring comfortable shoes and a warm jacket.
Medication • All medication brought on the trip must have a medication form accompanying it. Put it inside a Ziploc with the prescription in its original bottle. • Any controlled substances (ADD/ADHD, etc.) must be kept in the sponsors’ room and dispensed from there. • Sponsors will meet with school nurse to review procedures.

Write-off Contest • All students are entered in Write-Off Contests • I have materials for everyone doing layout contests • Layout and some broadcast contests are due Nov. 7 and you will attend a critique during the contest time in Boston. • Write-off work times are Monday 11/4 from 2:30– 5 p.m. and Tuesday 11/5 from 2:30-5 p.m. if
