  4. What is Holiness ? • Not just being religious • Not just attending all services Being Holy means to Be Sanctified !

  5. Sanctified Means... • Set apart for a sacred purpose • Church - “The called out”Col.1:13 • Christian • Image and likeness of Christ • 1 Pet. 4:16 • Heb. 7:26 - Jesus is our High Priest

Jesus is our High Priest “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;” Heb.7:26 Christ is our example of HOLY LIVING Sanctification consecrated, pure, hallowed innocent, guileless, blameless unsoiled, unstained Place room between exalted above the heavens

  7. Romans 12 describes Sanctification V. 1 = living sacrifice V. 2 = not conformed but transformed V.11 = not slothful in business V.12 = rejoicing in hope V.17 = recompense no man evil for evil

  8. How do we develop holiness ? • It comes with practice • Matter of development • Heb.6:1 “go on unto perfection” • 2 Pet.3:18 “grow” ~ increase

  9. Holiness in the Church • Isa. 35:8 “The way of holiness” • Eph. 5:27 Church “should be holy and without blemish.” • Church is a Temple • 1 Cor. 3:16-17 = is holy • 1 Cor. 6:19-20 Sanctification - set apart for God’s use

  10. Holiness in the Church • 1 Pet. 2:5 “an holy priesthood” • Jesus is the High Priest • Christians are priests • Priests offer worship to God • 1 Tim. 2:8 “lifting up holy hands” Col. 1:2 “to the saints”

  11. Uses of Term Holiness • Not a name for the church • Mt. 16:18 = my church • 1 Cor. 12:20 = body of Christ • Rom.16:16 = Churches of Christ • Not a proper title for a man
