  2. Intro Paragraph • Hook – • An interesting quote that relates to your topic and thesis Make sure you give credit to who said it • If you choose to use a question make sure it is interesting. Do not use ‘you; or ‘I’! • Background – • At least 3-4 sentences explaining the basic plot and needed details about your topic (assume the reader of your paper has not read the play) • Mention the title of the play and the author • Thesis • One sentence • Feel free to use important words from the assignment • Preview the aspects your are going to discuss in your body paragraphs, but do not give away your evidence

Body Paragraphs • Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence…you can consider this a mini-thesis • Your quote must be integrated (Blended) between what you write and what the author writes • Cite your quotes (IV, ii, 35-36) • Your analysis should be the longest part of the paragraph. • Your analysis should not simply restate what the quote is explaining….explain HOW it proves the topic sentence

  4. Conclusion • Restate your thesis (do not simply copy it…you must reinvent your thesis) • Briefly review your major points of the body paragraphs • Explain the importance of your thesis. Answer the question “So what?” How does this thesis relate to the larger world or larger picture.

  5. Title • The title of the assignment and/or the play is NOT your title • The title should connect to the topic and your thesis, but try to create a title that makes your reader want to read the essay

  6. Important things to remember • Make sure you share your document with us in googledocs • Do NOT use “I”, “You”, “Me”, “We” • Do NOT announce what you are about to do “This proves….” “The thesis is….” • MLA format • Double Spaced / 12 point font • 1 inch margin • Upper Left hand corner • Your Name • Teachers’ names • Course • 24 April 2013 (Date)
