  1. Radio Interview – Preliminary Evaluation By Jessica Bate

  2. Choosing a partner Luckily for me, one of my best friends, Kaz, is in the same Media group as myself, so choosing a partner for the first piece of group work was easy. We are also both very similar, so choosing a topic to talk about would be easy and we knew that we could get along well. Music & Role Allocation After choosing what we would talk about, we then had to decide who was going to be the interviewer and who was going to be the interviewee. We decided to create the questions that we would ask first, and then see who could give the most detailed answer. One of our questions was about travelling to see bands play live, Kaz had recently travelled to London to see her favourite band perform, therefore we decided she would be best to be the interviewee, as she could talk about this experience. Both me and Kaz knew of a song that was specifically written about bands performing live, so we both instantly decided that wewould useHere’s to you by the Rascal Flatts. (click for lyrics) ♥ FTITWE – Favourite thing in the world ever Both me and my partner Kaz chose music as our FTITWE, so choosing one wasn’t a problem. However music was such a broad subject, we had to think of something more specific related to music that we could talk about. Both me and Kaz have been to a lot of concerts, and we love seeing live acts perform, so we decided that going to see bands play live would be our favourite thing in the world ever. Overall, I found the beginning of the project fairly easy, as me and my friend Kaz got along well and both had the same idea of what we wanted to get out of this project. However I think next time I would like to perhaps work with somebody different, to get to know other people in the class, and to see how differently I produce work.

  3. Our Script ♫As I was the interviewer, I had to briefly explain what the interview would be about, and who was going to be on the show etc. I tried to be as upbeat as possible, and I also explained about the music we chose, explaining how the lyrics related to what Kaz would be talking about. ♫ We created the basic cue sheet to begin with, we then worked on this after deciding on our Favourite thing in the world and the questions we would ask. ♫We needed questions that would give varied answers, and explain to the audience why our favourite thing in the world ever was so amazing, so they could maybe relate to how much we like it. Some of the questions we chose were: ♫Who are your favourite bands to see live? ♫What is so exciting about the build up to the concert? ♫Have you ever travelled a long way to see a live performance? ♫If you could see any live band, anywhere in the world, who and where would it be? ♫ We didn’t want to script what we were going to say too much, as we wanted it to sound natural and not like we were reading off a cue sheet. We wrote in the questions, however Kaz did not script her answers, therefore her responses would be natural when I asked the questions.

  4. Problems with our script ♫When we first went through our script we sounded natural and sounded like two friends talking, which was the aim. However, we noticed that some of the questions we asked were random, and sounded like they were put into the interview to pass time. Therefore we had to cut some questions out, but still try to answer them along with the other questions. ♫An example of this was the question What happens after the concert? How do you feel then? This sounded random, therefore we deleted it from our script and decided that Kaz would try and mention how she felt after the concert, compared to how she felt during the build up to the concert. Therefore the information was still included in our interview, but the question wasn’t being directly asked.

  5. Inside the studio ♫Our music was the main problem that we faced. We wanted some of the lyrics to be heard so that the listener could understand how it related to our FTITWE. However, the longer we left the music up, the less time we had to fit in our interview with the music playing behind. ♫We had only been inside the studio once before, but we knew what had to be done before we could record. We needed to go through the script with our music first and decide when it would be best being brought up and down. ♫After going through our script a number of times with the music being brought up at different times, we decided to only bring up the music once at the beginning and then see when our interview ended, and then bring it up at the end if we had time.

  6. Recording ♫We had gone through our interview a number of times, so we were confident when we went into the studio to record. ♫We knew about how our voice levels had to be set, so we went through our interview whilst the technician set the levels. ♫Whilst recording, Kaz forgot the answer to one of her questions, only the two of us noticed, as we managed to recover from the situation quickly.

  7. Final product ♫One of the strengths of our interview was how we managed to keep it all natural, and prevent it from sounding like we were reading off a script. Even though we had gone through Kaz’s answers a number of times, she still managed to keep it varied and make it sound like it was the first time she was being asked. ♫I enjoyed working with Kaz as we both had fun whilst creating the project, and I think the audience can tell that we are good friends, from the way we talk to each other throughout the interview. ♫Overall, I was happy with the end product. Me and Kaz worked hard towards the project and I feel that I got a good piece of work from it. ♫After listening to our interview back, we noticed that we were still talking extremely fast. I don’t believe that this was because we were nervous, as we felt confident when in the studio, however I think it was because we thought we were running out of time whilst the song was playing, so we tried to speed up the interview to fit it all in the space of the song playing behind us. ♫One way we could have improved our interview was by choosing a better known song. After listening to everybody else's interviews, they chose well known songs which added more entertainment to the interview. If we were to do it again, I think if we chose a better known song, it would have been more entertaining for the listeners.
