  2. What is DigiTool? • A repository to collect, manage and preserve digital objects • Commercial solution • Based in library and academic environment

  3. Architecture • Based on the OAIS framework • The atomic unit in the repository is the file • The file reside in a METS like container (Digital Entity) • Clear separation between METADATA and streams • Relations managed via the repository

  4. DigiTool and PREMIS • Ability to add the following to Digital Entity: • Event entity • Object entity • Rights entity • Automatically created • Event entity – to record any change done to an object • Object entity – to record the URN

  5. Issues still open • Better automation of the PREMIS creation • Support for agents entity • Redundancy (PREMIS, METS, MIX and DC)

  6. What is the Ex Libris Digital Preservation System (DPS)? A world-leading digital archive capable of ensuring preservation and future access to the nation's digital heritage collections, designed for: • Large scales of objects • Different sources and formats • Workflows for legal deposit by different producers • Based on a proven repository architecture

  7. DPS Background • Endeavor (previously)/Ex Libris (now) and the NLNZ have been/are engaged in a partnership to develop an OAIS complaint digital preservation solution called Kronos • Ex Libris and NLNZ have agreed to design and develop a new technology platform that will become a commercial product • Endeavor (previously) and NLNZ established a Peer Review Group to insure the applicability of the solution to libraries in general

  8. Where we are • Ex Libris and NLNZ have signed off on plans to create the DPS • Defined requirements for a preservation system • Ex Libris has already developed core technology that • Is in line with Kronos architecture • Fulfills a significant portion of the requirements • Can support the additional development of additional required components and functionality
