  2. Start of the Plague • Autumn of 1347 • Spread from fleas on rats • Killed more than 25 million people

  3. Impact on Society • Some people turned to magic and witchcraft • Jews were blamedfor the plague • Normal life broke down • Broke down the manorialsm system

  4. Impact on Economy • Production decreased due to plague • Workers demanded increased pay • Caused many revolts • Trade routes spread the plague rapidly • Took Europe over 100 years to recover

  5. Symptoms of Plague • Egg sized lumps under arms • Vomiting • Fever • Black spots • Spitting blood
