GS First Aider Course • Course covers treatment, protocols, emergency procedures, forms, and record-keeping. • For people who will serve as first aider for activities or events. • Required for at least one person for events over 200 participants and one additional first-aider for every 200 participants

  22. Clarifying Language: Volunteer Responsibilities • Volunteers expected to be fully capable of performing their duties. • Volunteers not permitted to be under the influence of any substance which may impair their physical and/or mental skills while volunteering for GSNorCal.

  23. Activities not Allowed • Go-carts have recently been removed from the approved high risk activity list.

  24. Electronic Signatures • Although handwritten signatures may be preferred, electronic signatures are permitted for parent permission forms

  30. SU Scholarships • Not recommended • Preferred that GS money fund activities for girls in Girl Scouting • Tax implications to be aware of

  31. Money for Girls • Girl Scout money should not be used for adult experiences except for required adults in adult-to-girl ratios

  32. Alcohol At Events • Alcohol not permitted at girl events • If girls are present at adult events, must be supervised by an adult who is not drinking • Must notify Risk Mgmt & Travel at least 2 weeks prior or event will not be covered by insurance

  33. Raffles & Drawings • Generally not allowed • Check if you think your event is an exception • Raffles must be included in special annual raffle permit obtained by GSNorCal

  34. Silent Auctions • Allowed only in limited circumstances • Sales tax must be paid on the purchases • Must obtain permission • Must document the money-earning income • Must maintain certain records

  35. Collaborations Guidelines regarding collaborations with other organizations: • No fundraising for other organizations • No political fundraisers • When collaborating with religious partners, no girl required to take part in religious observance • Avoid selling or endorsing commercial products

  36. “Participation” in Product Sales Defined • Minimal level of average 6 items per girl for Fall Sale, average 12 boxes of cookies per girl in Cookie Sale • Girls gain valuable skills in the product sales to prepare them for other money-earning projects

  37. Paying for Services • Consult with council staff • Contract must be approved • Independent Contractor checklist must be completed • Certificate of Liability Insurance • Certificate of Workers’ Compensation

  38. Being Paid for Services • OK to accept a donation for services, but cannot earn wages or income
