  1. Introduction to New Media DR. BURÇE ÇELİK

  2. Cyberactivism, Cyberterrorism Cyberactivism is a means by which advanced information and communication technologies, e.g. e-mail, list-serv, and the www of the Internet, are used by individuals and groups to communicate with large audiences, galvanizing individuals around a specific issue or set of issues in an attempt to build solidarity towards meaningful collective actions (From Network Publics) Manuel Castells argue that hacker culture is the fundamental part of the network and internet culture. In the beginning, hackers were a dedicated group of talented and innovative programmers committed to make a better and more efficient use of Internet. Online activism is non-disruptive, haktivism is disruptive, while cyberterrorism causes “great harm” or “severe economic damage”.

  3. Research on Cyberactivism The National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) report of 2001 concluded that the number, intensity, and impact of cyberactivism will increase. The report also claimed that the primary goal of cyberprotesting will shift from embarrassing the target entity or calling attention to a cause to intentional destruction of information. Institute for Security Technology Studies show that cyberattacks immediately accompany physical attacks, cyberattacks are increasing in volume, and they are attracted to high value targets. Yet IT is not totally integrated into “terrorism” and mass disruption.

  4. Myths About “Others” Zapatista using the net in the jungle, Al Qaeda is connected through the net… The encyrptedmessaging on the net on the one hand allows oppressed users to go around the surveillance, on the other hand help Al Qaeda members to communicate in confidence.

  5. Turkey http://en.rsf.org/turkey-turkey-12-03-2012,42065.html Three groups of hackers: The ones that are fascinated by technology. They are not interested in the content of web sites. The second is the criminals. The third one is hactivists. According to UfukEriş, Redhack belongs to the third one. Eriş claims, hactivists constitute a new social movement and collective dissidency.
