  2. Stone Age Hunting & Gathering Stone Age • Stone Age -Period of time when hominid made tools and weapons mainly from stone / wood / bones • Stone Age: Lasted 1,000s of years until man used METAL.

  3. Stone Age Hunting and Gathering The Stone Age can be put into 3 periods • Old Stone Age-Stone/bones • Middle Stone Age: Stone • New Stone Age: Farming

  4. Stone Age Hunting & Gatheringcont… Fire?????? • Ward off dangerous animals. • Because of fire, they can begin moving to colder regions in search of food.

  5. Stone Age Hunting and Gathering Settling New Areas • Fire allowed these people to move and become NOMADS. • Started in Africa and Spread out • What are Nomads? • What do you think life was like during the Stone Age?

  6. The Beginning of Farming First Farmers • 11,000 years ago there was an AMAZING DISCOVERY!! • They figured that if they plant seeds, new ones would grow. • No longer need to be Nomads.

  7. The Beginning of Farming Farming Around the World • Soon they discovered that some places are better for farming. Plant Selection • They planted the bigger and tastier seeds • That’s why we plant our seeds today.

  8. The Beginning of Farming Raising Animals • These early farmers learned to tame animals • By taming larger animals like sheep, goats, and pigs people developed a source for meat, milk, and wool.

  9. The Beginning of Farming The Challenges of Domestication • Not every animal tames easily • In Ancient India, people tamed elephants for use in battle.
