  3. What is your notion of a holy person? Give some examples of “holy persons” • Why do you consider these persons “holy?”

  4. Think about your life… • How do they spend their time? • How do they spend their money? • What is closest to their hearts?

  5. Questions • What is the message of the story “Growing Good Corn”? • What is the requirement for us to live a holy life according to John 15:5-10? • What is the Consequence if being far from God? • What are the two things a good follower of Christ should remember? • What it means to live in Jesus’ love or live a holy life? • Explain the Church Teaching: CFC 1397 • Why the Church is holy? • What are the means of holiness and salvation provided by the Church to her members?

  6. “Growing Good Corn” • Those who choose to live in peace must help their neighbors to live in peace. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches.

  7. If we are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbors grow good corn. Likewise, if we want to live a holy life, we must help others live a holy life by our witness of a life obedient to the will of the Father.

  8. We affect those around us by the choices we make and the witness we live. The choices we make are according to the values we hold. Our values are what we feel important in our life; they guide our choices. Christians aim to follow the values of Christ. They follow the lead of the Holy Spirit and make right choices. This helps them to BE and DO the best they can.

  9. A. Sacred Scriptures: John 15:5-10 • see p. 283 # 1 (Bible sharing guide) • 10 groups with 4-5 members. • What is the requirement for us to live a holy life?

  10. We have to change our sinful selves, be closely linked with Jesusand have an intimate loving relationship with Him, for He is the vine of God to whom, as branches, we are attached. • God is the source of life, as well as of fruitfulness, for us, the branches. • “Living with Jesus” means following His ways and obeying what He has taught

  11. However, we cannot do this on our own; we need the help of the Holy Spirit, who renews us day by day with strength. Without the help of God, we can do nothing; but we also have to do our part. We need to be open, humble, and to cooperate with the workings of the Spirit within us. When we do this, we are able to lead holy lives as we are called to do by Christ.

  12. What is the Consequence if being far from God? • We fall into temptation, dull our minds and hearts and weaken our spiritual life. Then we become useless branches, on the way to be burnt or join a garbage heap.

  13. What are the two things a good follower of Christ should remember? • First, a good follower of Christ enriches his own life; his contact with Jesus makes him a fruitful branch. • Second, he brings glory to God by his good example which inspires others to be faithful to God, too.

  14. What it means to live in Jesus’ love or live a holy life • It means to live according to Jesus’ great commandment of love: to love God above all things with all one’s heart and to love one another as He did in obedience to the will of the Father. “Live simply so that others may simply live.”

  15. HOLINESS means… • Sharing Christ’s life, living in His presence and with His love. • doing normal things for and with God • being in love with God and expressing that love of God through love for all creation and all people. • It is living life the way God intends us to do.

  16. In Baptism, we are given the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to do good and be a loving person. The Holy Spirit gives every Christian the capacity to live the holy life to which she/he is called. Each of us is inspired by the Holy Spirit to do the Father’s will and to follow Jesus’ words and life.

  17. Church Teaching: CFC 1397 • “We believe the Church is holy, first, because "Christ loved the Church as His Bride and gave Himself up for her, to make her holy. Uniting her to Himself as His body, He endowed her with the gift of the Holy Spirit" (LG 39). Second, because the Holy Spirit graces her with the fullness of the means of salvation and holiness.”

  18. Why the Church is holy? • Her founder, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, the Risen Incarnate Son of God, is holy, for He is God. • The Church can only be holy because of her relationship to God. Her holiness comes from Him, leads to Him or is the effect of His divine presence in those who share His life of grace.

  19. What are the means of holiness and salvation provided by the Church to her members? • the doctrines, faith and morals • the Liturgy and Sacraments, • the instructions of those in ecclesiastical authority, and • the communion of saints that the Creed describes.
