  1. USCGC MOHAWK HUMAN RELATIONS POLICY STATEMENT As professionals in the United States military, we are directly responsible for the workplace environment onboard USCGC MOHAWK. The focus of the Human Relations Council is to create and maintain a positive workplace where everyone is encouraged to use their unique talents and skill sets to achieve their full potential and maximize their contribution to USCGC MOHAWK. We are part of an ever changing society and it is imperative that we uphold certain values. It is inconsistent with our values to allow harassment, discrimination, or intolerance in our workplace. To achieve the vision of the Human Relations Council, it is important to encourage positive expressions of culture, beliefs, and values which coincide with the United States Coast Guard’s core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. WE DO NOT TOLERATE DISCRIMINATION The cornerstone of our democracy is respect and equality for all. We fully expect our responsibility to treat each other with fairness, dignity and compassion regardless of race, religion, gender, ethnic background or disability. We teach members of our work force to recognize discrimination, and we fully expect everyone to take positive steps to address and eliminate it. This requires personal leadership and commitment from everyone, especially those in supervisory positions. WE DO NOT TOLERATE ANY FORM OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT Sexual Harassment involves unwanted sexual advances, sexually oriented verbal or non-verbal or physical contact. Such behavior has a devastating impact on our workforce. It diminishes self-esteem and inhibits the performance of employees. There can be no ambiguity about the prohibition of any form of sexual harassment. We will take positive steps to prevent it, and will act swiftly and decisively on reports of sexual harassment. Personnel must feel free to report all incidents of sexual harassment. WE VALUE THE DIVERSITY OF OUR WORKFORCE We are committed to an organizational culture that fully capitalizes on the strengths that diversity brings to our workforce. We must continually work to create and maintain a positive environment where differences are recognized, understood and valued, so that all can achieve their full potential and maximize their contributions to our mission. We strongly believe that diversity contributes immeasurably to the creative thinking and innovation critical to excellence. These are the duties and responsibilities set forth by the Human Relations Council. It is up to each and every individual to hold themselves accountable. In the same aspect, if you feel that you have been discriminated against, sexually harassed, unable to express your personal beliefs and opinions, or if you simply feel that you are being treated unfairly it is your charge to bring it to the HRC’s attention. It is their sole mission to ensure the well being of the crew and that means each and everyone of you are part of a bigger picture. Remember no one person is greater than the other. It is completely up to each and everyone of you to hold yourselves accountable. CDR M. J. Fedor Commanding Officer / HRC President
