What is the right to health? • Available, accessible, acceptablehealth facilities, goods, & services that are appropriate & of goodquality • Freedom to make decisions about one’s own health • Entitlement to a system of health protection • Concerns factors leading to a healthy life – ‘underlying determinants of health’

  12. What the right to health is NOT? The right to be healthy ONLY a long-term programmatic goal Economic difficulty does not absolve a state’s obligations Will be resolved overnight

  13. What about women? Using agenderperspective means recognisingthat both biological & socio-cultural factors play a role in influencing the health of women… Policies & programmes must consciously set out to address these differences.
