Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Dietary Therapy Hepatic Steatosis, commonly known as Fatty Liver Disease, is a hepatic condition in which the liver’s ability to detoxify blood from toxins, gets reduced due to excessive consumption of alcohol. This is a reversible hepatic disease, however, if ignored can cause chronic damage to the liver. In the digestive tract, the alcohol consumed gets absorbed in the blood. The blood that reaches the liver contains the maximum concentration of alcohol. While the liver functions to purify blood from toxins, it can only process a certain amount of alcohol, therefore, repeated consumption of excessive alcohol degenerates liver's ability to detoxify blood. Since this condition is reversible, it is important that a patient takes utmost care of his hepatic health in order to avoid further damage to the liver.
