  14. One Standard, One Test, One… How some visionary bright men had the idea to establish a Mutual Recognition Agreement? What was the direct cause of the establishment of such a body?

  15. Global Trade & Conformity Assessment • Local – Regional – Global • Conformity assessment, perceived slow, steady, bureaucratic • Conformity assessment models were developed in isolation • Due to increased global trade, manufacturers identified the need to find improvements in efficiency and profitability

  16. Targets & Achievements Target: One test Achieved: One test Target: One certification Achieved: One international certification Target: One mark Achieved: One or more certification marks as needed or direct market acceptance by Regulators, Customs, Retailers, Buyers, Vendors, etc.

  17. IECEE facilitates International Trade The IECEE Schemes are intended to reduce obstacles to international trade which arise from having to meet different national certification or approval criteria.

  18. Reasons for the Success • Flexible system that can be timely responsive to the market • Type test as opposed to a full certification & follow up service • Integration of National Differences, SNCs, Regulatory requirements • Independent impartial Peer Assessment Program • Supports regulatory policies
