Energy • Kinetic • Energy associated with moving objects • ½ mv2 • Units of Joules (J) • Worknet = KE • Potential • Amount of energy that is stored; has the potential of changing • Gravitational based upon height GPE = mgh • Elastic in a spring or stretched object EPE = ½ kx2 Units of Joules (J)

  4. Mechanical Energy • ME = KE + PE • ME is conserved; there is no loss or gain of energy – law of conservation of energy • This is only true in the absence of friction
