  4. Types • Low density lipoprotein (LDL) • Bad • Excess builds up on artery walls • Narrowing and hardening of arteries • Increased risk of heart disease and stroke

  5. High density lipoprotein (HDL) • Good • Picks up excess cholesterol and transports to the liver

Tips for lowering fat intake: • Choose lean cuts of meat • Trim meat & poultry and remove skin • Grill or broil meat (fat will drip off) • Substitute low fat dairy choices • Choose lower fat foods for breakfast • Eat fewer deep fried foods (ie. fries, doughnuts) • Limit portion sizes • Skim fat layer off soups and stews • Limit high fat snacks
