  2. What is the plot of act 1??? • Swan Lake starts off with Prince Siegfried celebrating his 21st birthday in his palace. • His mother gives him a bow and arrow as his present. • He sets off into the woods with his hunting buddies.

  3. What is the plot of act 2??? • Prince Siegfried gets ahead of the group and ends up at an enchanted lake that is filled with swans and finds the most beautiful swan, which is the swan queen Odette. • His friends catch up with him but he asks to be left alone. • When morning comes, the beautiful swan turns into a beautiful woman and she tells him that Von Rothbart turned her and other girls into swans. • Von Rothbart is disguised as the prince’s mentor.

  4. Plot of Act 2 continued • Odette informs the prince that the only way to break the curse is if a man that is pure in heart would love her. • Von Rothbart arrives at Swan Lake just as Prince Siegfried was about to confess his love for Odette and Rothbart takes her away from the prince.

  5. Plot of Act 3 • Prince Siegfried attends a formal celebration in the Royal Hall and is forced to select a bride, but he still cannot stop thinking about Odette. • Von Rothbart arrives at the celebration with his daughter, Odile. • Rothbart casts a spell on Odile so that she will be able to look like Odette, and the prince is mesmerized by her beauty and begins to dance with her. • All of this is happening while Odette is staring from the window.

  6. Plot of act 3 continued • The Prince confesses his love to Odile thinking she was Odette • Odette watches from the window and in horror and leaves • Von Rothbart reveals to the prince the true identity of his daughter • The Prince leaves to go after Odette

  7. What is the plot of Act 4? • The depressed Odette went back to the lake with the rest of the girls • Prince Siegfried finds them consoling each other • He explains to Odette the trickery Von Rothbart played on Him • Odette quickly forgave him • Von Rothbart and Odile appear in weird bird form • Von Rothbart tells the prince that he must honor his word and marry his daughter

Plot of Act 4 continued • The Prince tells him that he would rather die with Odette than marry his daughter • He takes Odette’s hand and they jump in to the lake • The spell is then broken and the swans return to being human • They push Von Rothbart and Odile in to the lake where they also die • The girls watch as the spirits of the Prince and Odette go to heaven above the Swan Lake
