History • "wiki" name was inspired by the transit bus line at the Honolulu International Airport which is named after the Hawaiian expression for quick (wiki wiki) • The first Wiki was created in 1995 by Ward Cunningham, who conceived it as a quick way to create and share ideas when working • The first public wiki, called the Portland Pattern Repository, facilitates the discovery and discussion of software patterns.   3. Wiki • Some companies use wikis to allow customers to help produce software documentation • Wikis have also been used in the academic community for sharing and dissemination of information across institutional and international boundaries (collaborative)

  4. What is Wiki ? • A wiki is "a website that allows visitors to add, remove, edit, and change content...and allows for linking among any number of pages". • A wiki is a place to stock information • Content sharing- Contains links to other Wiki pages • Aim is creation of documents

  5. Wiki • user-generated (the content created by the actual people who use it) - multiple • allow users to comment on the content • Wikis are better at archiving information for easy access. • Wikis are better at gathering information from a group of people.
