  1. State Update Presentations – 2012 Missouri (MSDIS) 2012 MAGIC GIS Clearinghouse Summit Sioux Falls, SD EROS Data Center

  2. Clearinghouse Services • Q1: What type of services do you provide? • Data archival - yes • Data distribution - yes • Web services (WMS, WFS, ArcGIS, Imagery) - yes • Database development/area integration – project specific • Metadata development - yes • Application development – very little • Application hosting – available but not doing a great deal of it yet • Geospatial data inventory - limited • Coordination/outreach – regional geospatial workshops • Training – project specific

  3. Funding Q2: How are those services funded? • $146K and change from the state – buried in the UM budget. University pays raises and some benefits.

  4. Challenges Q3: What is your greatest Clearinghouse challenge at this time? • Finding funding for an effective and maintained GIS inventory.

  5. Backup architecture • Specified and regular – tested with some frequency – but does not included written policies… Somehow there seems to always be bigger alligators in the pond… Q4: What is your backup architecture – does it include written policies?

  6. Database Development & Integration Q5: Does your clearinghouse support database development projects that involve the integration of local/regional data sets? • Yes – since 2007… Regional Planning Commission “Structures” projects each year. Soon to be added to by our Broad Band Initiative “Structures” projects. 94 counties in two years.

  7. Inventory Q6: Have you implemented a GIS data inventory tool within your state? • Indirectly – the GeoPortal has resulted in better documentation of the data and metadata that we do have – and in the collection and documentation of new data sets. But we still don’t participate in a national data inventory tool.

  8. Staffing Q7: How is your organization staffed? Please list positions title and full or part time status. • Full time Research Specialist – Wenbo Song Web Administrator – Martin Wills Program Manager – Mark Duewell • Part Time Director – Tim Haithcoat Fiscal Officer – Dianne Roberts A varying number of students employed on “Structures” and Geoportal

  9. Archive Policy Q8: Has your state developed a record retention/archival policy for geospatial data? • It tried – several years ago it was part of a federal grant that foundered… We’re trying to approach our state offices about this but we’re a long ways off and – frankly, it’s not viewed as low hanging fruit. • We’ve taken one of our older servers and created an online archive server – we’re backing up archival data there – but it is – at best – a temporary solution…

  10. Technology: GIS Server Q9: Which of the following GIS Server software are utilized by your organization? (ArcIMS, ArcGIS Server, AGS Image Extension, Map Server, Other?) • ArcIMS 9.2, ArcGIS Server 10.04 (10.1 on our test server for LiDAR testing and development), Imagery Extension…

  11. Technology: GIS Server Q10: If your organization is running ArcGIS Server, have you upgraded to version 10.1? Yes, No, Issues encountered? • See Question #10 – Issues – yes – with projection (since solved).

  12. Technology: GIS Server Q11: Which Web API's are utilized by your organization? (JavaScript, Flex, Silverlight, Undecided) • Flex • Javascript…

  13. Technology: GIS Server Q12: Does your state GIS portal utilize the ArcGIS Server Geoportal Extension? • Yes – 10.04.

  14. Technology: ArcGIS Online Q13: Are you currently publishing data and services via ArcGIS Online? • Only testing…

  15. Technology: Cloud Computing Q14: Are you currently using Cloud computing services? For example, a pre-built ArcGIS Server instance running in the Amazon Cloud or a Cloud-based storage solution? • No…

  16. Technology: Mobile Applications Q15: What, if any, mobile applications have been developed or are planned to be developed? What platforms are being supported (iOS, Android, Windows Mobile)? What technologies are being used? • None – yet…
