  2. Stage I 1939-1941 • Europe • Germany: Conquers France, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Poland. • British evacuation and Dunkirk. • Battle of Britain: June-Sept. 1940. • German invasion of Russia: Sept. 1940. • Begins Lend-Lease Act, Convoy duty in the Atlantic.

  3. Pacific: • Japan: • Controls China, moves into Indochina. U.S. Freezes asset, embargo on scrap, iron and steel. Japan forces British withdraw of Singapore. Japan issues demands November 20, 1941. Unfreeze Assets Supply Japan with gas. Cease aid to China.

  4. Stage II: Dec. 7 1941-Aug. 1942. • America enters the war. • Dec. 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor attacked, to cripple U.S. fleet in the Pacific. • Europe: • Germany is defeated at Stalingrad. Forced to surrender 6th Army. • Rommel defeated at El Alamein. • Combined Allied landings in North Africa, Sicily. • Convoy system gains control of the Atlantic. • Prepare for Normandy Landings.

  6. Stage IICont. • Japan is defeated at Midway: loses 4 carriers and 350 pilots. • U.S. begins island hopping campaign victories in Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands and the Philippines.

  7. Stage IIIJune 6, 1944-Aug. 14, 1945 Europe: Normandy Landings, Germany retreating against Russian attacks. Allies move up the Italian Peninsula. Assassination attempt against Hitler. Hitler commits suicide May 7, 1945, Germany surrenders.
