The State of Education • Current event(s) • Waiting for Superman • Education Nation (NBC) • President Obama (September 27, 2010) • Change and reform takes time • We have to do more with less • Looking for laboratories and cultures of excellence • Must focus on Math and Science • Currently ranked 21st in Science and 25th in Math • Teachers feel discouraged and need more support • There is not a more important profession than teaching for the recovery of this economy • Advocates for longer and more school days • Currently go to school 1 month less than all other industrial nations
