Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you.“ - Deuteronomy 6:1-3

  16. Parenting TODAY’S OUTLINE: I. Instruction A. Model B. Meditate C. Mention II. Correction A. Speak B. Spank

  17. Parenting SPANK: Proverbs 13:24 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him. Proverbs 23:13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. 14 Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death. Proverbs 29:15 The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.

  18. Parenting BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE: • The purpose of spanking is to counteract folly. In other words, spanking should be used in situations of rebellion and willful disobedience. (Proverbs 22:15) • Spanking hurts; it does involve a measured amount of physical pain. (Hebrews 12:11) • 3) Spanking becomes excessive if it is causes a persisting bitterness in the child. (Momentary anger is not an issue.) (Ephesians 6:4 & Colossians 3:21). • 4) Spanking is for "children," toddlers to young teens (Proverbs 22:15, 23:13, 29:15) • 5) Spanking is by the "rod," literally a stick of wood, appropriately sized.

  19. Parenting COMMON SENSE: • Spanking exists to cause a measured amount of pain, not tissue damage. The rule is "sting, don't damage." • Spanking should be consistently applied; the child should have a clear understanding of under what conditions spanking will occur. • Spanking should be done calmly, without anger. • A parent should explain that he or she is spanking in order to teach obedience. • Spanking should be performed as close in time to the act of disobedience as possible. • The child should be told how many swats are coming. • Spanking should be followed immediately by admonition, forgiveness, and expressions of love.

  20. Parenting Sample Script: "Dear, you know what mommy said and you did not obey mommy. Now I have to spank you. You know I am not mad at you but you must learn to obey. I will be giving you three swats.... Now why did mommy have to spank you?....That's right, because you didn't obey. Remember to obey your mommy. Now I forgive you. And I love you."
