  12. FELLOWSHIPS, DEVELOPMENT AWARDS & RESEARCH SUPPLEMENTS FOR FACULTY&STUDENTS

  13. GRAD. STUDENT PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS (F31) • Encourages students from minority groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences to seek the research doctorate. • Students must already be enrolled in a Ph.D. program. • Students must identify a sponsor for mentored research. • Up to 5 years of support (stipend, tuition & fees).

  14. FACULTY PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHPS(F34) • Provides an opportunity for eligible faculty who lack • the Ph.D. degree to obtain the research doctorate. • Faculty must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program. • Faculty must intend to return to the minority serving • institution after the training period. • Five-Year max. support: stipend–up to $37,476; • tuition/fees/institutional allowance.

  15. MORE Faculty Development Awards (K01) • Offers faculty (with Ph.D. degree) an opportunity to update their research skills through high quality research experiences. • Support for eligible faculty to spend the summer (or one academic term) every year for 2 to 5 years in a research intensive lab. • Ideally, experience should lead to long-termcollaborations. • Provides salary; supplies, equipment, & travel. Direct cost up to $50,000/year.

MARC SENIOR FACULTY FELLOWSHIPS(F33) • Provides an opportunity to eligible faculty to update their research skills and/or move into new areas of research through intensive research in a state-of-the-art research environment. • Candidate must have received the Ph.D. at least 7 yrs. before, and be a full-time faculty in biomedical sciences or mathematics for at least 3 yrs. • Candidate must intend to return to the minority institution after the training period. • Two-Year max. support: stipend–up to $51,036, plus institutional allowance.

NIGMS BRIDGES TO THE FUTURE PROGRAMS(NIGMS Partnership with NCMHD) • Institutional support to help URM students make the transition from 2- year community college to 4-year baccalaureate program, and from MS degree programs to Ph.D. programs in biomedical sciences. • BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM:A partnership between 2-year colleges that award the Associates degree and institutions awarding the Baccalaureate degree in biomedical sciences. • DOCTORATE PROGRAM:A partnership between M.S. degree programs and institutions awarding the Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences. • Provides tuition remission, salary, supplies.

Research Supplements for Underrepresented Minorities • This is a NIH-wide program: principal investigators holding NIH research grants may request supplemental funds to support minority scientists and students. • The types of supplements available are: • High School Students • Undergraduate Students • Graduate Research Assistants • Postdoctoral Training • Investigators
