  2. Update of Current Projects • K-12 World Language Program • Current and future WCL 7-12 program • Expansion of the current dual language program at elementary, middle level and high school • Exploring options to increase elementary foreign language opportunities

  3. 7-12 WCL Program • In process of implementing standards-based grading in WCL courses. • Creating assessments which align with the standards. • Expanding course offerings (Chinese and Spanish) • Implementing a national, normed language proficiency exam (2012-2013 level 1)

Stamp 4se Avant Assessment • Engages students with a computer-adaptive assessment that helps them to understand their own proficiency level. • Assesses students/ proficiency in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.* • Is facilitated by proctor and results are statistically validated. Reading and Listening scores are available immediately, and Writing and Speaking are scored externally by certified raters and available within 2-3 business days. • Scores are reported by district/institution, school, class and individual at proficiency benchmarks related to ACTFL levels novice through advanced. • Empowers informed decisions around staff development and instructional planning.

Junior High Program • Increased collaboration between the high school and junior highs both with administrators and WCL staff. • With the implementation of the language proficiency assessment we can use the data to make informed decisions about not only the curriculum but student placement. • Moving forward the expectation that students who were successful at level 1 in the junior high WILL be placed in level 2.

Junior High Program Cont’d • Assessment data will also be used as a guide for placement • Increase rigor and expectations for the junior high program • Monthly articulation meetings with junior high teachers • Plan professional days for junior high teachers to come to the high school and observe different levels of classes and debrief

  8. Dual Language Expansion • Expanding the program from 3 elementary schools to 5 elementary schools • Transition to the junior high (committee work) • Parent meeting for current 4th grade dual language students about the junior high transition—May 17—JJHS • Outside program evaluation will be conducted in the fall (Mimi Met)

  9. Dual Language cont’d • This past month all 3rd and 4th grade dual language students were given the Stamp 4se language proficiency exam. • Conversations are already occurring at the high school regarding interdisciplinary courses for the dual language students (International Law or Business taught in Spanish, etc)
