Our Commitment Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to preparing students to be knowledgeable, responsible citizens whose words and actions reflect an understanding of the fundamental values and principles of the American constitutional democracy. The District’s commitment includes providing eligible students with the opportunity to register to vote.

  3. Our Proven Results • Since the student voter registration program began in 1972-1973, 311,658 students have been registered to vote by the District’s social studies teachers. • The total number of students who registered to vote during the 2012-2013 school year was 9,333.

The Spring Voter Registration Drive beginning and ending dates areas follows: Beginning Date: Monday, April 21, 2014 Ending Date: Thursday, May 1, 2014 • Seniors in American Government and Economicscourses will be the target audience. • Schools are also encouraged to register age-eligible underclassmen.

  6. School Registration Goal • The 2014 student voter registration goal for each school is based on the number of eligible students enrolled in all social studies courses. • The 2014 goal is listed on your school’s voter registration packet. • Schools are challenged to exceed the goal!

  7. Student Eligibility In order to register to vote on May 15, 2014, a student must be: • at least 17 years of age by May 15,2014 (born on or before, May 15, 1997); • a citizen of the United States; and • a resident of Miami-Dade County. Other factors that may prevent a student from registering to vote include prior registration, religious belief, felony conviction, and/or mental incapacity.

  9. Responsibilities of Personnel Conducting the Voter Registration Drive • Work with school staff to make all necessary logistical arrangements for the drive; • Register students. If you need an additional copy of your eligible students please do the following: • Access the Webview Control D Report called *VOTERS – REGIS – REVIEW. School administration and office personnel can access this report. • After drive, cut the seal and count the total number of cards completed during the drive with the Miami Dade Supervisor or Elections staff member. (You will coordinate with the Elections Dept. on your pick up date, additional information will be sent via email) • Sign the form that will be presented by the Elections Dept. representative. • Complete the on-line voter registration report for the school at the Social Sciences/Life Skills website at: http://socialsciences.dadeschools.net/forms/voter-agent-report-form.asp • Complete professional development form within 10 days of completing your voter registration drive to receive 5 MPP.
