Replacement necessity340 interviwed farmers with 20 and more cows • 60% of farmers are self employed, 70% are older than 46 • 2/3 have degree of gymnasium or agricultural school, 1/3 from univercity • Work 10h a day - 6,5 h with animals • All days are working days, family members are helping and replacing if needed • Majority doesn´t take holiday

Replacement necessityII • 1/3 works when being sick • 70% feel very tired and want to have holiday in near future • 90% would like to use the service if relief worker is scilled and 50% of costs are covered by the state • There is no organization which offer replacemet and ensure service quality

Project activities and results • Research on service necessity - 340 farmers interviewed - results published in May 2006 • Service Development Strategy – confirmed in 2005, versionated in 2006, 2007 • Info seminars for the public - in 2005-2007 - 50 seminars, 35 articles, 3 radio and 2 TV interviews, press relieses, advertisments, project homepage, video about the project • Training of 50 relief workers 2006-2008 – 30 reliefs are trained in 2006-2007 • Practical farm work 2006-2008 – I,II group in 2006, III, IV group in 2007, V group in 2008 • Examins in animal husbandry – 11 certificates issued, 10 applicants will have examin in June 2007

Project activities and results II • Negotiations on changing the law 2005– 2007-law was changed in Feb 2007 • Training of regional coordinators 2006-2008- danish know-how was used in 2 trainings in 2006, 2007 • Consultations for farmers, formation of consumer circles 2007-2008 – 9 circles were formed in 2007.a. • Contracts with farmers and relief workers – implementation of relief service in pilot regions – 2007.II p.a • Implementation of the service in all regions– 2008.a • Handbooks for the farmer and for relief worker - 2008 • Computer program for central coordination of the service – 2007 - 2008.a

International partnership - activities • Steering Committee Meetings – 5 meetings (in Estonia, Italy, Spain, Slovakkia) • Album on New Social Images of Rural Women: 23 + 5 farmers wives were interviewed + photos Articles, Photos about project activities and women ,Photo gallery in EFF homepage Work-shops: Estonia July 2005 – work-shop + 3 days study tour – appr 30 participamnts Spain June 2006 – 6 participants Italy Dec 2006 – 12 participants • Study tours: • Estonians in Italy April 2006 – 22 participants • Estonians in Spain April 2007- 22 participants

What we have learned? • Investigate the causes of different attitudes, interests and understandings among women of different countries • Change mentality of thinking - successful member of EU has to support others, learn from them and know them. • Good cooperation is possible and very necessary among smaller farms - not only big farms are successful • Study tour experiences encouraged our farmers to seek new possibilities of cooperation
