Analysis of Flow Control Valve Wear: Insights from Metaldyne Report

The Metaldyne report reveals that the valve bore exhibited no scoring but noted fretting consistent with past observations on the Flow Control Valve (FCV). Only minor wear was found, primarily black markings linked to prior high-speed durability tests, without affecting oil system performance. Small wear marks were noted on both the front and spring ends of the valve, specifically on the opposite sides of its diameter. This analysis assesses whether the observed wear suggests casting defects or rough machining, particularly in relation to previous test modules like BSE, DRL, and CVP.

  1. Metaldyne report said “The valve bore showed no score marks, but there was some fretting present consistent with the fretting seen on the Flow Control Valve” What is it? Casting defect? Is rough machined surface than old module ?

  2. Figure 19 Metaldyne report said “The only wear observed on the Flow Control Valve (FCV) was the black markings which have been seen on other high speed durability tests. Figures 19 and 20 show close ups of the valve wear on the spring and plug end of the valve. This wear is consistent with other high speed durability modules inspected, and has not affected oil system performance. “ Did you observe housing ? ( section like module BSE ) Figure 20

  3. Metaldyne report said “There are small wear marks on the front end and spring end of the valve. The wear marks are on the opposite side of the valve diameter. “

  4. spring end of the valve Metaldyne report said “There are small wear marks on the front end and spring end of the valve. The wear marks are on the opposite side of the valve diameter“

  5. Metaldyne report said “There are small wear marks on the spring end of the valve “

  6. BIT(200,000Km) The engine part of domestic Korean fleet vehicle test had coated black colored by oil staining. but all lubrication parts such as metal bearing, CVVT, had good function. Test mode of 3 module is same ; DRL(100,000Km), CVP(150,000Km), BIT(200,000Km).

  7. Did you observe housing ? ( section like module BSE )
