Access assessment tasks and examples for KS1-KS3, improve teaching standards, provide transition data, and reinforce Primary RE confidence.

Welcome to DARE • In this section of the disc you will find a folder for each of the suggested assessment tasks. • For some of them we have examples of students work with commentaries, these should be used to help with your in school moderation • Although originally for KS2 and KS3 there are assessment for KS1 and some could be adapted for ks1 • The rest of this PowerPoint will explain how DARE works
Rationale of DARE • To improve standards of teaching and learning in RE • To accredit pupil learning in RE in year 6 and in year 8/9 • To provide valid transition data between KS2 and KS3 • To increase KS3 confidence in Primary RE • To enable SACRE to be more effective in its monitoring role
What will it mean for Primary Schools? • Schools must teach the following 3 units from the Ready to go further • Pilgrimage, What did Jesus teach his followers? and a unit on Hinduism or Islam depending on Pyramid. • These can be delivered in any order. This would mean secondary confident of coverage and then only need level. • Schools have suggested assessment tasks on this disc. They are, hopefully broad enough to allow flexibility.
What does this mean for Primary RE coordinators? • County wide assessment tasks in Year 6 Feb. half term each year. • Internal moderation by year 5/6 teachers in school led by coordinator • Send top middle bottom,+ an example of SEN if applicable + list of students and three level grades • SACRE moderation meeting (open training) confirms, or alters, grades sends feedback and certificates • Fill in certificates for awarding.
What will this mean for Secondary/Middle Schools? • 4 units. • Possible units to include:- • 1 Buddhist led unit e.g. ‘Suffering’, • 1 Sikh led unit on e.g. equality, no assessment task yet available • 2 Christianity led units ‘Life after death’ and' Justice’ Others can be done but no suggested assessment tasks yet available
What will this mean for Secondary School co-ordinators? • Units can be delivered in any order • Suggested assessment tasks sent to schools • Assessment in spring term of year 8/9 • Internal moderation by RE dept. Send sample top middle lower +SEN if appropriate + list of students • SACRE moderation meeting (open training) confirms, or alters, grades sends feedback and Certificates • Fill in certificates for awarding.
What do you need to do now? • Try assessment tasks as part of your current teaching esp year 5 and year7 • On www.saled.org > resources > Dorset Assessment in RE Project • Keep small sample and levels data • Look out for moderation/A.f.L training
