Need • Energy efficient green transportation • Low cost vehicle • Balanced, easy to use bicycle and tricycle • Kit that installs easily and on most standard bikes
Project Outcomes • Produce a power assisted bike kit to: • Assist the rider with climbing hills • Increase travel range • Minimally alter the weight and balance of the bike • Help weak riders • Provide a smooth and natural riding experience • Compare advantages of bicycle vs tricycle
Development of Project • Creating a Pro-E model of the bicycle and tricycle • Developing the method of attaching the kit to the bike • Using ANSYS for stress analysis • Creating a hitch and trailer for the tricycle • Development of control system for motor • Creation of display and user controls
Greg’s Role • Power Analysis of the Bikes components • Regenerative Braking • Installing/Mounting of Kit • Development of trailer for Tricycle • Procurement of parts
Brad’s Role • Pro-Engineer Assembly of Bicycle/ Tricycle • ANSYS of both models for stress analysis when kit is installed • Placement of the kit components to keep bicycle balanced
Matt’s Role • Design and create control system for motor • Create a display that shows information such as the current level of assistance, battery life, and possibly statistics such as distance traveled and current speed • Deal with power consumption and battery life issues
Timeline By end of Senior Project 1: • Pro/E and ANSYS done • Design of tricycle trailer • Control system designed • Procurement of tricycle • Power Requirements
Budget • Keep costs low so everyone can buy a kit • Rough Estimate: $600 for entire project. • Completed kit for both bicycle/tricycle • Includes buying a tricycle
