  5. Domain 4 • Collegiality and Professionalism is one of the five critical variables that have a strong correlation with student achievement. • Teachers engage in specific activities that create a professional environment that foster’s teachers’ development.

  6. Define Professionalism A professional is a person who is paid to undertake a specialized set of tasks and to complete them for a fee. There is so much more!!!

Characteristics of Professionalism • A professional is a person who is paid to undertake a specialized set of tasks • Expert and specialized knowledge in field • Excellent manual/practical and literary skills in relation to profession. • High quality work • A high standard of professional ethics, behavior and work activities -Often the professional is required to put the interest of the client ahead of his own interests. • Reasonable work morale and motivation. - positive attitude • Appropriate treatment of relationships with colleagues. • A professional is an expert who is master in a specific field.

  8. Define Collegiality The relationship between colleagues This too has more!

  9. Collegiality in Academia • There has traditionally been a strong element of Collegiality in the governance of Universities and other higher education institutions. These are environments where individual independence of thought and mutual respect are necessary, particularly in institutions with a strong research base. Collegiality is often contrasted with managerialismwhich has a more hierarchical structure.

  12. Promoting Positive Interactions about Students and Parents The teacher interacts with students and parents in a positive manner to foster learning and promote positive home/school relationships.

  13. Seeking Mentorship for Areas of Need or Interest The teacher seeks help and input from colleagues regarding specific classroom strategies and behaviors.

  14. Mentoring Other Teachers and Sharing Ideas and Strategies The teacher provides other teachers with help and input regarding specific classroom strategies and behaviors.

  15. Adhering to District and School Rule and Procedures The teacher is aware of the district’s and school’s rules and procedures and adheres to them.

  16. Participating in District and School Initiatives The teacher is aware of the district’s and school’s initiatives and participates in them in accordance with his or her talents and availability.
