APPR Updates • Final Stages of Approval • Teachers and principals will be evaluated under 3012-d this school year. • Observations 90% from administrator (building principals) 10% from independent evaluator • Tenured- 1 announced (building principals) and 1 unannounced (independent evaluator) • Non-Tenured- 2 Announced (building principals) and 1 unannounced (independent evaluator)

APPR Updates-SLOs • Student Performance (SLO): All K-6 teachers- District-Wide SLO (Common Core Regents exam)  Until the 2019 school year. • Teachers with Regents exams will have SLO based on the Regents. • 8th Grade Science will also have an SLO based on the 8th Grade Science exam. • All other teachers will be a part of the District-Wide SLO (Common Core Regents exam)

Why focus on 12 indicators? • Joint effort of the RTA and the RAA • Simplify the observation process and the number of indicators that teachers are observed on • Consistency across the district and with independent evaluator • Move away from a “Gotcha” system to a system of evaluation focused on growth • Tell teachers will know up front the focus of evaluations • Better turn around time for feedback on observations

Why focus on 12 indicators? • Use results to target areas of professional development based on data from observations • Identify targeted areas for coaches to be able to help teachers • Support non-tenured teachers with growth and give mentors areas to work with new teachers • Identify and build on strengths and internal expertise
