  6. Introduction of the Course • The basics and core of public speaking: “a good person speaks well”. • 1. To improve your ability to write effective English public speeches. • 2. To improve your ability to deliver English public speeches • 3. To improve your skills of intercultural communicative competence. • 4. To improve your ability to think critically • 5. To improve your ability to listen effectively to public speeches • 6. To improve your ability to utilize research skills and strategies.

  8. Grading Assignment Proportion of Final Grade • Introductory Speech 15% • Informative Speech 20% • Persuasive Speech 25% • Other Speeches, Assignments &Participation 15% • Final Exam (paper work) 25%

  9. Class Arrangement • The course is divided into 3 parts, each of which culminates with a major speech assignment: • Introductory unit: week 1-6 • Informative unit: week 7-11 • Persuasive unit: week 12-16 The written form of these speeches will be handed in as a part of your final grade.

  11. The classes during this period encourage more discussion both within groups and in the whole class. • The discussions are directed and focused on the knowledge impartment.

  12. Students Responsibilities • Arrive on time for class. If you arrive late during a speech, do not enter the classroom until the end of the speech. • Listen attentively to the speeches from your classmates. Show them the courtesy and attention you expected from them when you speak. • Turn in speech outlines and other written works on time. • Being in class without fail when you are assigned to speak.
