  2. Population CENSUS • Brunei Darussalam- a small country with population less than half million • Census is conducted by Department of Statistics (DOS), Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) • Census conducted every ten years • Census experience since 1971

  4. Data Capture • Census is divided into 2 stages: • 1st Stage – House numbering • 2nd Stage – Actual enumeration • Mode of data capture –Manual data capture face to face interview, with appointed temporary field staffs • Field data collection – 10 days

  5. Data Processing • Using Main Frame – Ingres • SPSS • Support from Admin and ICT Department ,JPKE

  6. Data Processing • Data processing was divided into 2 Phases: • Phase I-general particulars and one economic activity question • Phase II- All remaining questions • Not recommend to split into 2 phases for next census

  7. Data Processing • File batching • Editing (Manual editing, computer logic, consistency checks) • Coding • DDE through terminals • Clean data download to Personal Computer SPSS • Macro Tabulations • Errors lists • Re-edit • Re-processing

  8. Technology for Census 2011 • Consider to opt to use ICR Technology • Seek expertise, Training • Explore Computer assisted Coding • GIS Mapping and dissemination
