Background & Legal Basis • Indonesia is the 4th largest country in terms of total population (around 235 million people) after China, India and USA. • Law No. 16 Year 1997 on Statistics. • UN’s Agenda on Population Census in 2010 and around.

Censuses in Indonesia • Two censuses during Dutch Administration: in 1920 &1930. • Five censuses after the independence (1945): in 1961, 1971, 1980, 1990 and 2000. • The 2010 census is the eight census.

Main Objectives of Census • To count the numbers of whole population. • To collect data on Demographic- socio-economic characteristic of the population.
2010 Census Questionnaire • C1 Form: for general population in regular residential areas. • C2 Form: for specific population (homeless, population in very remote areas, household members of Indonesia diplomatic corps living abroad, etc)

Data Collection in 2010 Census • Data collection will be involving 700,000 field staffs including instructors, supervisors. • The processes of data collection will be monitored and supervised by 1600 independent quality assurance team.
Relevant Important Events to 2010 Census • Presidential Speech to launch the 2010 Census: 30 April 2010 at 8PM • Census enumeration: 1-31 May 2010 • At President’s resident: 1 May 2010 at 10AM • At Vice President’s resident:1 May 2010 at 2PM • Census date: 15 May 2010 • Post Enumeration Survey (PES): June 2010 • Dissemination of Preliminary results: 17 August 2010 in front of the MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly) • Data Processing: May-December 2010
Planned Activities in 2011 • Data cleaning: January–July 2011 • Dissemination of the final results: Mid-August 2011 • Data analysis and publication: Jan – Dec 2011
Major Utilizations of the Census Data • To provide data for designing development policy, planning and programs up to the lower administrative levels. • To estimate basic demographic parameters. • To update population projections and sampling framework(s) for the coming surveys. • To provide framework for population-based targeting of both sectoral and regional development programs. • To evaluate the achievement of MDGs both at regional (until district level) and at national level.
BPS Expectations to Donor Communities • To expand public expose about the nature and coverage of 2010 Census. • To advocate particular GOI institutions (UN’s partners) to participate in utilizing the census results for public planning and evaluation. • To facilitate and to encourage research institutions at universities and GOI institutions to analyze census results. www.themegallery.com
