Initial VLBI2010 Operating Scenario Monte Carlo Simulations Dan MacMillan, John Gipson NVI, Inc./NASA/GSFC
Overview • 18-station network: 13 VLBI2010 + 5 Legacy Antennas • Ran Monte-Carlo simulations for 4 schedules 1) Standard algorithm to maximize number of obs (1Gbps) 2) Uniform sky schedule 3) Increase bandwidth of schedule 1 to 8 Gbps 4) Schedule 1 with only VLBI2010 antennas
Number of Observations • Uniform sky algorithm reduces the number of observations considerably • Using only 2010 antennas increases station scans by 10-20%
3D Site Position Error • Median and average 3D errors somewhat better for VLBI2010 than legacy antennas • Uniform sky algorithm reduces the number of observations considerably • Increasing bandwidth from 1 Gbps to 8 Gbps increases observation by and 3D error by up to 25% • Using only 2010 antennas increases station scans by 10-20%, reduces 3D error by up to 30%
