2. Background Infortmation • The Vietnam War was fought by the United States between 1965 and 1973 • Americans be believed that defending south Vietnam through communist aggression was in the national interest • More and more Americans grew weary of mounting casualties and escalading costs

3. Nature of Conflict/Involved • Students of democratic society • Most college students were motivated by social injustices, the war in Vietnam and Civil Rights Movement

Influenced/Impacted War Effort • Opposition to U.S involvement in the Vietnam war began slowly and in numbers in 1964 on various college campuses in the U.S • The Anti-War movement is often considered to had been a major factor affecting Americas involvement in the war itself • Veterans Spoke out against the Vietnam war on there return to the United States • So many people dying affected American family's thoughts and how they feel about the war • College students were beginning to be drafted for the war • This will change how kids feel about the war because they are getting forced to go to war without any opinion

Understanding the Event • Anti- War movement is a social movement, usually in opposition to a particular nations decision to start or carry on an armed conflict • Can refer to pacifism, which is the opposition to all use of military force during conflicts • Pacifism is the belief that violent conflict is never acceptable and that society should not be ready to fight in a conflict • The Anti-War movement is not necessarily opposed to national defense

7. Additional Info. • People began to march with signs saying “get out of Vietnam” • American troop strength in Vietnam was approaching 500,000 and U.S casualties reached 15,058 killed and 109,527 wounded • The Vietnam was costing the U.S 25 billion per year
