  3. Before Reading • Have you ever been in trouble or felt stuck and needed a friend’s help? • Have you ever met a new kid at school who looked different? Did you make judgments about that person? • Answer one of these questions by creating a web of your ideas and feelings. Print your web when you are done and put in your portfolio. Include the definition of the word obstacle in your web. * Print and file into your portfolio.

  14. Winn-Dixie was fearful of lightning. He would run as far as he could and hide. This is an example of cause and effect. Find another example of cause and effect in this story.   19. A book review is a description of a novel and it’s impact on the writer. Read this book review of another of Katie DiCamillo’s books. You are now a famous journalist. Your current assignment is to write a book review for Because of Winn-Dixie, use what you know and how you feel about the book to lead you in your writing. Write your review in a word document.
