Winter Pit firing. By Debbie Altschwager. Add one bale of wood shavings. Add burnished, bisqued pottery. Add 3 pounds of Kosher salt. Add 1 pound of copper sulfate. Gently lay small kindling over pots. Gently lay split logs over the kindling to fill the kiln.

  2. Add one bale of wood shavings

  3. Add burnished, bisqued pottery

  4. Add3 pounds of Kosher salt

  5. Add1 pound ofcopper sulfate

  6. Gently lay small kindling over pots

  7. Gently lay split logs over the kindling to fill the kiln

  8. Add crumpled newspaper and more kindling

  9. Add dried Christmas wreaths

  10. Carefully light wreaths and cover half of the kiln with sheet metal

  11. Cover the remaining half of the kiln with sheet metal

  12. The kiln takes approximately24 hours to fire

  13. When the kiln has cooled, unload and see the magic…
