The ECHO (European Chronicles On-line) project aims to facilitate access and searching of vast audiovisual archives over the internet. Launched on February 1, 2000, it focuses on managing historical documentaries, adopting appropriate metadata formats, supporting multiple languages, and integrating both manual and automated indexing. The project has culminated in the creation of an advanced system for video summarization, semantic expansion, and improved metadata functionalities. With contributions from various international partners, the ECHO project enhances the interoperability of digital film collections.
