  1. Evaluation of Main Task By Danika Arthur

  2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions or real media products? • The opening credits are shown at the beginning just as every other real media product so that it introduces the main characters involved and the title of the film. • It subverts convention’s in the storyline within the first minute because the female is casually walking on to her destination, which makes the audience believe that she is oblivious to her surroundings. • The use of the non-diegetic musical instrumental, links in with the girl’s body language because it is very calm and subtle as she leaves the school gates and walks through the park. • Unusual sounds to make the scene spooky e.g. suspense effects, heartbeat racing, heavy breathing and screams. • Introduce the ‘dark’ character as mysterious, suspicious and tormenting. The criminal is normally dressed in dark colours, mainly black and a hood so that they identity is hidden. • No dialogue throughout the scene because it develops suspense, as to what may occur later. 2

  3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? • The teenage girl is dressed in a beige colour. This may of helped the criminal to locate because the colour would be visible. • She is portrayed as the innocent character who becomes the victim without even knowing anything is happening around her. • However, the criminal is a man, which is usually the case in thrillers and this could mean that he thinks he is superior over her. 3

  4. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? • Play.com • Amazon • Lovefilm.com I believe these websites above would be the most beneficial to distribute my product because they are all well known online retailers whom sell many products worldwide. This will help the same target audience which are from a different country, be able to get a copy. 4

  5. Who would be the audience for your media product? • Both genders and it applies to those from the age of 13 because it is eye opening to everyone and they should be aware of the activities which occur to females most of the time. 5

  6. How did you attract/address your audience? • Crime and violence is increasing within today’s society so I believe my media product portrays what happens in reality, especially towards females. This will become an eye opener to everyone so they can prevent themselves from any danger. • Being as it is supposed to be a thriller genre, it would be most favoured by teenagers because it leaves the audience in suspense. This will make them more keen to wonder what the next scene may have to offer. 6

  7. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? • Using the editing software has helped me familiarise myself with the various effects and video transitions which have been inserted in the product so that it flows smoothly. • How to mute all background sounds which are unnecessary and insert music over the video and make sure it plays in time with the shots. • Getting used to the camera by trying out how its functions such as the zoom-in button which has been very useful in my final product. 7

  8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? • I have learnt how to work as team with my peers to produce both tasks. We all contributed into the filming and editing so that it could be done quick and become successful. • Specific locations which fit the scene and the lighting, whether it should be dark or light. • The use of various camera shots/angles/movements make the product much interesting to show different emotions of the characters. • Some of the editing shots in the preliminary task could have a bit more sharp. This has helped to improve the main task because we know which mistakes we made and how we can change it to make it better. 8
