  4. Peru’s Government Peru is a presidential representative democratic republic with a multi-party system. Under the current constitution, the President is the head of state and government; he or she is elected for five years and can only seek re-election after standing down for at least one full term. Peru was declared independent in the year 1821.

  5. The Physical Factors… • The small sliver of land that is Peru is situated on the west coast of South America. In the low-lying lands, there are wide petroleum fields. In the coastal region, there is much fishing and towards the north, a desert. • Peru’s mountain range is called the Sierra and stretches the entire country.
