  1. THE TROUBLE WITH THE CHURCH IS… Amos 5:21-24 Isaiah 1:10-20

  2. The Joy of Fellowship • When we complain about “the church” we sometimes get carried away. • A family – warts and all. • Yes, every congregation could stand some improvements. • But there are soooo many great people, and we accomplish many things. • Some areas of concern:

  3. 1. Formalism • Again, don’t get carried away. Everything takes a “form”. • A “spontaneous” action, repeated, is formalism. • But too many things are objected to because, “We’ve never done that before”. • Can we sing the descant to songs? What if it’s not suggested in the song? • Our “picture board” is a mark of “liberalism”.

  4. How Far Do We Go? • “But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner” (I Cor. 14:40). • Professional preachers – to avoid embarrassing moments. Do we go to professional song leaders? Pray leaders? • Freedom to express our heart to God • 2 Timothy 1:7 vs. Rom. 12:18 • Bible class teachers don’t have to follow “the book” (prepared material) mindlessly.

  5. 2. Failure (Refusal) To View Things in a Redemptive Context • Part of our “job” is to save the lost. • Luke 19:10; I Cor. 9:22; I Tim. 6:4 • Human nature is to focus too much on blame, and not solutions. • “HOW CAN I HELP?” • John 8:1 – the pharisees, the woman and Jesus. “Now What?” • Acts 8 – Peter and Simon – “Can you believe that Simon?” • Now What?

  6. Our job isn’t, primarily, to judge or blame. • Our job is to help. Teach. Save. • Jesus established a wonderful church. Men complicate it. • We always have. But it’s still “the church.” My family.
