  27. FIRST READING Acts 2:1-21 The coming of the Holy Spirit   R: The first reading for Pentecost is written in Chapter two of Acts beginning at verse one.

  28. Acts 2:1-21 On the day of Pentecost all the LORD'S followers were together in one place.  2Suddenly there was a noise from heaven like the sound of a mighty wind! It filled the house where they were meeting.   3Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions, and a tongue came and settled on each person there.

  29. Acts 2:1-21 4The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak. 5Many religious Jews from every country in the world were living in Jerusalem.   6And when they heard this noise, a crowd gathered.

  30. Acts 2:1-21 But they were surprised, because they were hearing everything in their own languages.   7They were excited and amazed, and said: Don't all these who are speaking come from Galilee?   8Then why do we hear them speaking our very own languages?

  31. Acts 2:1-21 9Some of us are from Parthia, Media, and Elam. Others are from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,10Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, parts of Libya near Cyrene, Rome, 11Crete, and Arabia.

  32. Acts 2:1-21 Some of us were born Jews, and others of us have chosen to be Jews. Yet we all hear them using our own languages to tell the wonderful things God has done. 12Everyone was excited and confused. Some of them even kept asking each other, "What does all this mean?”

  33. Acts 2:1-21 13Others made fun of the LORD'S followers and said, "They are drunk."  14Peter stood with the eleven apostles and spoke in a loud and clear voice to the crowd: Friends and everyone else living in Jerusalem, listen carefully to what I have to say!

  34. Acts 2:1-21 15You are wrong to think that these people are drunk. After all, it is only nine o'clock in the morning.   16But this is what God had the prophet Joel say, 17"When the last days come, I will give my Spirit to everyone. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will have dreams.

  35. Acts 2:1-21 18In those days I will give my Spirit to my servants, to my servants, both men and women, and they will prophesy. 19I will work miracles in the sky above and wonders on the earth below. There will be blood and fire and clouds of smoke. 20The sun will turn dark, and the moon will be as red as blood before the great and wonderful day of the Lord appears.

  36. Acts 2:1-21 21Then the Lord will save everyone who asks for his help." This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  37. Psalm 104:24-34, 35b CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 104. R: 24Our LORD, by your wisdom you made so many things; the whole earth is covered with your living creatures. C: 25But what about the ocean so big and wide? It is alive with creatures, large and small.

  38. Psalm 104:24-34, 35b CEV R: 26And there are the ships, as well as Leviathan, the monster you created to splash in the sea. C: 27All of these depend on you to provide them with food, R: 28and you feed each one with your own hand, until they are full.

  39. Psalm 104:24-34, 35b CEV C: 29But when you turn away, they are terrified; when you end their life, they die and rot. R: 30You created all of them by your Spirit, and you give new life to the earth. C: 31Our LORD, we pray that your glory will last forever and that you will be pleased with what you have done.

  40. Psalm 104:24-34, 35b CEV R: 32You look at the earth, and it trembles. You touch the mountains, and smoke goes up. C: 33As long as I live, I will sing and praise you, the LORD God.

  41. Psalm 104:24-34, 35b CEV R: 34I hope my thoughts will please you, because you are the one who makes me glad. C: With all my heart I praise you, LORD! I praise you!  C: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning in now and will be for ever. Amen.

  42. Second reading Romans 8:14-17 CEV The Spirit makes us God's children R: The second reading for today is written in Chapter eight of Romans beginning at verse fourteen.

  43. Romans 8:14-17 14Only those people who are led by God's Spirit are his children. 15God's Spirit doesn't make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father. 16God's Spirit makes us sure that we are his children.

  44. Romans 8:14-17 17His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  45. GOSPEL John 14:8-17,25-27 CEV Jesus promises the Holy Spirit L: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter 14 of the Gospel according to John beginning at verse 8. C: Glory to You O Lord.

  46. John 14:8-17,25-27 8Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father. That is all we need." 9Jesus replied: Philip, I have been with you for a long time. Don't you know who I am? If you have seen me, you have seen the Father. How can you ask me to show you the Father?

  47. John 14:8-17,25-27 10Don't you believe that I am one with the Father and that the Father is one with me? What I say isn't said on my own. The Father who lives in me does these things. 11Have faith in me when I say that the Father is one with me and that I am one with the Father. Or else have faith in me simply because of the things I do.

  48. John 14:8-17,25-27 12I tell you for certain that if you have faith in me, you will do the same things that I am doing. You will do even greater things, now that I am going back to the Father. 13Ask me, and I will do whatever you ask. This way the Son will bring honour to the Father. 14I will do whatever you ask me to do.
