  2. Dewey Decimal Classification System Melville Dewey created this classification system to organize books in a more meaningful style. This moved from the traditional method of alphabetical order to a more topic oriented style.

  3. Dewey Decimal Classification System The Dewey Decimal Classification System organizes information into 10 broad topic areas. Each topic area is given a number, X00. These large topics are broken down into subclasses; these are further broken down into subclasses.
