The rules are many and all are important to keep your articles from crashing and burning.

  2. Lesson 3 Article Manager – Text Uploading How to upload the text portion of your article to Article Manager

  3. Requirements An internet connection using: • For PC’s: • Windows Explorer or Firefox • For Mac’s: • You MUST use the latest version of FIREFOX (not Safari)

  4. Once the text portion of your article is completed, you're ready to upload it into Article Manager Go to www.lasplash.com and click on the Affiliate Log In link or go to http://www.lasplash.com/account/

  5. You Will See This Screen Put in your Username and Password Then click Login

  6. You will see this screen, choose Create Article

  8. First You Need To Fill In The Title

  9. Then fill in the category for the article. Choose the category you think most accurately identifies the article you are posting from the dropdown menu but NEVER choose anything with AD in front of it and NEVER choose This WeeksorMain Feature!.

  10. Next load choose the Status which is Hidden while working on the article and Pending when you think it is all done after the text and photos are uploaded and you Previewed it and have double checked it for errors. Never, Never make the article Visible, that is only for Editors!!!

  11. Adding Formatting & Full Screen • You can add formatting: • Bold • Italics • Color Text • Underline • Bullets & Numbers • Etc. • DO NOT change the Font Name or Size! • You can view the text in full screen by clicking on the Full Screen icon

  12. Adding Links • You create Hyperlinks by highlighting a word that will become the Hyperlink e.g. Click Here • Choosing the Hyperlink (chain) icon • Pasting in the URL including the http:// that will take the reader to the desired web page • Clicking on insert • Then click ok

  13. Author Put your name unless you are using an alias. Meta keywords Browse your article for keywords, copy and paste or type those keywords into this space separated by commas. Insert as many Meta tags as you feel will benefit search engines. Always think as if you were looking for the thing you are writing on: what words would you type into search engine? Include your name, Splash Magazines, LA Splash. IGNORE

This is a screen shots of the Article Manager page filled out (Top of Page): Summary:This should ideally be an original summary of 3 to 25 or so words geared to peak the readers interest.DON’T PUT IN MORE THAN THE 25 WORDS OR IT WILL TAKE UP TOO MUCH SPACE AND OVERPOWER THE SUMMARY PHOTO. Never put in a period! Don’t give away too much of the article, try to make it a tease. If you cannot write an original summary you may use the first 3 to 25 words of your article, but the information must be the same in the Summary & Content Box.

This is a screen shots of the Article Manager page filled out (Middle of Page): Example: For this Kelly Nishimoto article I put: LA Fashion Week, Kelly Nishimoto, Nishimoto, fall collection, Bohemian, Youthful, Comfortable, Refined, Opulent, Fluid, Timeless, Macon, Georgia, Demi Moore, Gwen Stefani, Anastasia, Natasha Henstridge, Jenna Jameson, Dave Navarro, Sean James, Fred Segal Beauty team, Galliano, Armani, Alaia, Versace, plaid dress, large wooden bauble necklace, fresh face, Olympian Tara Lipinski, Tara Lipinski, SmashBox, Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Alberta Ferretti, Lesa Amoore Make sure to fill in the meta keywords field. Browse your article for keywords, copy and paste or type those keywords into this space. Insert as many key words as you feel will benefit search engines. Always think as if you were looking for the thing you are writing on: what words would you type into a search engine.

Verify all Fields are Filled in Properly • Title – using words that the reader would in a Google search • No colons (:) • If using a dash (-) having spaces before and after • Title Case NOT ALL CAPS • Category (Never an Ad or Weekly or Main Feature ) • Change the Date/Time if necessary to the current date vs. the date you started working on the article • Filename with underscores between the names you want to be viewed in a Google search with a dash between phrases that you want Goggled e.g. Kelly_Nishimoto_Fall_2006_Collection-The_Stellar_Look_That_Has_It_All • Summary Text – Not more than 25 words with no periods

  18. Check Bottom of Page • Author • Summary Image***image number*** (centered) • Meta keywords

  19. Preview Article • To see how your layout will look click Preview • You will see the article as it will appear in the magazine however you will not see the SummaryPhoto or Summary Text.
