  1. Warm Up: Take one sheet of blue paper from the front of the room, write down the definitions and draw at least two ideas for personal symbols. Symbol: an image that represents something else; often something immaterial Personal Symbols: Objects or materials that represent your personality or interests. For Example: Hobbies, activities, items, animals, values, culture...

  2. Artist Trading Cards • Artist Trading Cards or ATC: Miniature works of art on cards that are made with various media. They are commonly traded or exchanged. • You cannot sell them.

  3. Why do Artists Make ATC? • This is a new art craze that is spreading around the country. • People and Artists like to collect them. Think of it as a business card or a way to get your artwork seen. • They are the same size as sports trading cards. You can trade the cards with other artists, at art conventions, online, or with your friends.

  4. What do I put on an ATC? • ATC can be made out of anything. They are considered to be MIXED MEDIA: meaning more than one medium. For example, paint and colored pencil or pastel and pencil. • On the back you write: • Your name • Contact Info • Title of ATC • Date you created the card.

  6. Today you will create your own ATC using personal symbols. • We will be rotating tables so you get to experiment with seven different art mediums. Rules: • You have 7 min at each table. ( I will tell you when to move) • You must stay with your assigned group. • Your card must represent you!! • Draw one word, phrase or object on ATC paper which represents you using the medium at your table. • You must use every medium at least once. • You should have no background white left on your card when finished.

  9. Sketchbooks • Artists from all periods of time have made use of sketchbooks, including Leonardo da Vinci and Claude Monet.

  10. Why do artists use sketchbooks? • Artist use sketchbooks for many things. • To keep a record or journal of items they find interesting to reference later. For example: A place, person, poster, another artwork. You can draw a quick sketch or attach photographs in your sketchbook.

  13. Today you will make a cover for your sketchbook • You will use your artist trading card to create a personal logo (unified design) for your sketchbook. • Sketchbook covers help you identify and find your sketchbook more easily and they represent you.
